• Dazzler #41 (1986) Phoenix (Rachel Summers) cameo.
• Secret Wars II #7 / New Mutants #36 / Uncanny X-Men 202 (1986) The X-Men talk Phoenix out of attacking the Beyonder; Sunspot leaves the New Mutants; the Beyonder tries to show Magik her true potential; Shadowcat briefly gains the Soulsword; Phoenix tries to kill the Beyonder during SECRET WARS II.

• Avengers #263 / Fantastic Four #286 (1986) The Avengers discover a cocoon in the Hudson Bay and the Fantastic Four learn Jean Grey is alive inside it; Jean is released form the coon and the FF discover the Phoenix who died on the Moon modelled itself after Jean during PHOENIX RISING.
• X-Factor #1 (1986) Jean Grey is reunited with Angel, Beast and Iceman; Cyclops leaves his wife and child to rejoin his old teammates to form X-Factor; X-Factor pose as mutant-hunters and secretly rescue the reported mutants as the X-Terminators; first appearance of Cameron Hodge and Rusty Collins.

• Dazzler #42 (1986) Beast rescue Dazzler from Dust and Silence.
• Secret Wars II #8 (1986) The X-Men and New Mutants try to apprehend the Beyonder during SECRET WARS II.

• Power Pack #20 (1986) The New Mutants and Power Pack defend Manhattan from demons.
• New Mutants #37 / Uncanny X-Men #203 / Secret Wars II #9 (1986) The Beyonder kills the New Mutants; Phoenix almost uses the life-forces of every living being in the universe to kill the Beyonder; the Beyonder resurrects the New Mutants; the X-Men join the other heroes of Earth in attacking the Beyonder, but he's ultimately killed by the Molecule Man during SECRET WARS II.
